Validated assessment of resorts

High- and ultrahigh-resolution satellite imagery can be used to obtain information on the amount of greenspace in an area and on its water approaches (presence of reefs, gently sloping shores), local topography, changes over time and even the amount of sunlight received by a beach. All these factors can be evaluated both individually and together to obtain a validated assessment of each hotel or resort. The parameters are evaluated using AI and Land Classification technologies.

Tourist safety

Earth remote sensing is already helping to improve the safety of tourists and holidaymakers by constantly observing weather conditions. The data are automatically processed on-the-fly and transmitted to an emergency warning system and the authorities. Thanks to the speed, scale and frequency of provision of this kind of information, it is able to mitigate risks for tourists and holidaymakers.

Evaluation of conditions for extreme sports

But there are also groups of people who travel in search of danger. Lovers of extreme sports who need specific weather conditions can also use remote sensing technologies to plan routes and seek out locations that are best suited for their activities.

More detailed information can be obtained from various spectral indices such as NDSI and NDWI. These can also be used to forecast and monitor ocean winds (speed, direction, stress) and waves from metocean data.

Improved mapping

For backpackers it is very important to have an up-to-date and detailed map. This is another area where automatic processing of satellite images and data interpretation can be of help. With high- and ultrahigh-resolution images it becomes possible to create a map that is both interactive and frequently updated, while AI, Change Detection, Land Classification and other advanced automated processing technologies provide a picture of changing circumstances, natural features and their characteristics.
