Kernel organized its panels in the Ukraine Pavilion at the 29th Conference of Parties. The participants were from various sectors and industries, including Ukrainian officials, European Commission, EBRD, etc. COP29 gathered environmental experts from all over the world, and EOS Data Analytics was a part of that marvelous landscape.

The panel titled “Data Science, AI and Machine learning: how Ukraine applies innovations to drive low-carbon precision agriculture and humanitarian demining” included experts from the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, NASA Harvest, Kernel, HFS Research, and FAO Ukraine. Regina and other participants talked about how they create and use sustainable solutions, using data science and RnD to help the environment.

The panel discussion felt like people passionate about ML and AI were gathered together to share some thoughts about the agricultural sector in Ukraine. Super-friendly and open conversation, and we met a lot of kindred spirits there, who shared our vision on many topics, including the demining of Ukrainian soil and sustainability in agriculture.

Regina emphasized that satellite technology can help with working in remote areas, since it allows monitoring the fields from afar and in inaccessible areas. She also mentioned that it will most likely not be possible to use de-occupied lands for growing edible crops, as the soil is contaminated, but other options can be considered, such as growing crops for biofuels, which is gaining popularity now. The panel lasted for an hour.

Meanwhile, Lidiia got to meet representatives from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Agrodairy, and Prime Cotton LLC. She discussed potential collaborations and got a warm response on how much they support Ukraine in these difficult times. She talked with the Head of the Patronage Service of the Minister of Ukraine, the Minister for Climate Change and Energy of Australia, and the Premier of South Australia.

If we take a global look, for me, COP29 is about the diversity of participants. I think it has been a while since I have seen so many different people from all over the world as the whole globe gathered to discuss and hopefully get to some agreements on hottest climate topics.

Regina and Lidiia also met with Matthew Warnken, Founder and Managing Director of AgriProve, Australia’s premier soiltech carbon developer. EOS Data Analytics and AgriProve collaborate to develop a comprehensive system for soil organic carbon analysis, with the project approximately spanning two years. It was a delight to meet our partner in person and to gift him our traditional Ukrainian vyshyvanka.
