The standard "false color" composite. Vegetation appears in shades of red, urban areas are cyan blue, and soils vary from dark to light browns. Ice, snow and clouds are white or light cyan. Coniferous trees will appear darker red than hardwoods. This is a very popular band combination and is useful for vegetation studies, monitoring drainage and soil patterns and various stages of crop growth. Generally, deep red hues indicate broad leaf and/or healthier vegetation while lighter reds signify grasslands or sparsely vegetated areas. Densely populated urban areas are shown in light blue. This band combination gives results similar to traditional color infrared aerial photography.
The Standardized Burning Index (NBR) uses the NIR and SWIR channels to highlight the burned areas, while muffling the difference in lighting and atmospheric conditions. Before using this index, your images should be corrected for reflection values.
The Normalized Differential Vegetation Index is often used to monitor drought, monitor and predict agricultural production, assist in predicting hazardous fire zones, and map desert encroachment. The NDVI is a standardized vegetation index which allows us to generate an image showing the relative biomass. The chlorophyll absorption in Red band and relatively high reflectance of vegetation in Near Infrared band (NIR) are using for calculating NDVI.
This band combination is very helpful when you intend to pick out land from water. In the image, ice stands out as a vibrant magenta color, water appears in shades of blue and land in shades of green and orange.

Examples of using LandViewer:

1. Find and save your area of interest

Save your time - use the search on location or coordinates to move to the objects you are interested in. Draw AOI and save it in your list My AOI. Now, it takes you only 2 clicks in the LV menu to move to the needed area.

2. Identify damage extents and evaluate access to critical infrastructure

Satellite data makes it possible to react promptly on different natural disasters and help to take emergency actions to minimize the consequences. Use Color Infrared or Land/Water Band combination for flooded areas and NBR index for burnt areas detection.

3. Detect, monitor, and assess the spread and impact of wildfires, flood, etc.

Use Slider tool for quick detection of areas that have suffered from natural or technological disasters. You can easily compare with this tool the before/after disaster condition of the area you are interested in.

4. Automatically detect building, roads and other urban objects

Use such indices as Color Infrared and Falce color (Urban) for artificial buildings detection and greenery to buildings correlation assessment. Up-to-date data help to track the progress of building and to assess potential risk for the environment.
